wild card noun a playing card that can have any value, suit, color, or other property in a game. a person or thing whose influence is unpredictable or whose qualities are uncertain. Steven I'm the best student. Top of my class in everything. It's summer before senior year, but the valedictorian title is mine. I need it. I crave it. I don't have time to play detective with Jeremiah or to worry about the fact his sister is losing her shit and no one else seems to notice. But I agree to help him. And Cassadra distracts me so much I accidentally make my least favorite Cousins resident think she's my girlfriend. He doesn't believe it, of course, so I have to plead my case with her. No one knows what she's been up to lately, must be trouble, when it comes to her it always is. But this is my only chance not to make a fool of myself. We'll just fake date for a few weeks. What could go wrong? Cassandra It's sad how little it took. One minute, I was a reckless teenager drinking tequila with my best friend. All I had to worry about was my parents potential divorce, my older brother having a meltdown and having fun because it was summer. No biggie. And now everything is ruined. I'm ruined. Steven is not high on the list of people I'd go for help, but he'll have to do. It's a good way to keep a close eye on the little investigation he's running with Jere, to make sure he doesn't find out my involvement. I just hope Steven doesn't reveal our ruse if he finds out, he's already paying too much attention to me. Because that's all this is. A lie. A means to an end. I don't love him, I barely like him, I need to keep that in mind. It'll be fine. Just a few weeks. What could go wrong? Tropes / Trigger Warnings Fake dating Best friend's sister Murder mystery Good boy x troublemaker girl Severe mommy issues Eating disorder PTSD (nightmares, jumpiness, anxiety attacks) Racism SA (in the past, just mentioned) Murder Body discovery

For a moment, she stayed still, like silence was her last shield. Then she exhaled, broken and tired. "I tried to hide it," she said softly, "but you wouldn't let me." ⋆ ── ⋆ ── ⋆ Truths are louder than secrets, merciless, burning, and impossible to ignore. Kairav Goenka was on a quest for the truth that was far too dangerous for him. All of this was because of the girl he had fallen for. The questions she buried in silence continued to haunt him. She had tried to protect him, battling against silence, distance, and every ounce of strength she had left. Yet, she couldn't prevent him from stepping into her world, a world she had spent years trying to escape. Now the truth was waiting, and the real question was what would remain once it surfaced? Because some love stories don't unfold. They circle back and begin again. ***** This is NOT a standalone book.

May, 2023 In 2023, scientists around the world gathered to study a strange virus discovered in African wildlife. It was unlike anything seen before - it dulled every sense except hunger, leaving its hosts in a constant state of exhaustion and aggression, resembling rabies but far more unpredictable. Within months, a vaccine was developed using powerful cell-boosting compounds designed to eliminate the virus and push the immune system beyond its limits. The first test was conducted on a rat. It was the last test they ever ran. Instead of healing the infected cells, the vaccine accelerated the virus at an alarming rate - within minutes the animal lost all control, driven by insatiable hunger and complete loss of reason. The virus had reached the brain. The project was immediately shut down, the specimen sealed in a sub-zero containment unit, and the truth buried deep within classified files. October, 2028 Five years passed. The laboratory sat abandoned and forgotten - until an earthquake cracked its walls open. Parasites and microorganisms escaped the containment unit, carrying the virus silently into the outside world. No alarms. No warnings. No time to prepare.

People imagine justice as a destination. A courtroom. A verdict. A pair of handcuffs closing around the correct wrists. Something final. Something clean. They imagine it arrives because systems function. Because institutions remember. Because someone important eventually notices. But cities are not built from justice. They are built from delay. Forms waiting beneath other forms. Complaints waiting beneath other complaints. Names stacked inside databases until urgency becomes paperwork and paperwork becomes silence. Most suffering does not disappear. It waits. It waits inside hospitals. Inside police reports. Inside housing requests. Inside unanswered calls and postponed decisions and investigations marked pending until the people who needed them most become statistics someone else is paid to interpret. Los Angeles contained millions of people. And like every city, it survived by pretending delay was not a form of violence. Until someone disagreed. Until someone began treating every unanswered report as an unpaid debt. Until someone looked at seven sins and saw something far more dangerous than morality. Not evil. Responsibility. This is the story of what happened after justice stopped waiting for permission.
