Camdelyn Lark, the daughter of a rich gentleman in early nineteenth century England, lives in world where a woman's only prospects in life are getting married. Camdelyn, however, hardly believes anyone could ever love her so she focuses on other things like her friend Aster's romance with the handsome Mr. Walters.
But when Camdelyn's friend Natalie's cousin comes to town, he turns everything she thought about her love life around. Calvin Oral is perfect, and he thinks Camdelyn is perfect, and she can forsee a proposal in the near future.
But the proposal she was looking for wasn't what she received. Instead, Camdelyn's worst enemy, Reed Liam, makes her an offer, and she promptly turns him down. In anger, Mr. Liam tells her a shocking bit of news that rocks Camdelyn's little world.
Camdelyn quickly comes to learn that all her conceptions about love were misconceptions, and that she's been wrong about everything, but that love can patch that up pretty quickly.
