A man wakes up after revelations to discover the apocalypse has already come.

Another short story I wrote one night when I couldn't sleep. A little piece of work I'm actually proud of. This one is for the introvert people out there.

Nysa lives in a world that is far too loud, even when it's silent. Her mind is a relentless machine of observation and empathy, dissecting the subtle shifts in a stranger's expression or the unspoken weight in a room until she is left exhausted by the data of human emotion. Rational to a fault, she understands the mechanics of her alienation, but logic provides little comfort for the isolation it creates. The only reprieve she finds is in the recurring architecture of her dreams. There, a man whose face feels like a forgotten melody offers her the one thing she cannot find in her waking life: a stillness that requires no explanation. He is her anchor in a sea of subconscious noise, a ghost she has come to love more than the living. Pushed to the brink by the sensory overload of her daily life, Nysa orchestrates a solo escape to heaven on earth. She seeks a void-a place where her mind can finally stop translating the world. But the solitude is short-lived. There she comes face-to-face with the impossible. Standing in front of her is the man from her dreams. He isn't a figment of her imagination or a symptom of her fatigue. He is real, he is flesh and blood, and for the first time in her life, Nysa's rational mind has no explanation for the truth standing right in front of her.

Silence is not absence. It's a presence-a predator. And Nyx? She was my voice. My anchor. My everything. Until they erased her. But here's the thing: Nyx never truly died. She lives through me-through every scream, every scar, every strike in my revenge arc. Because when Silence hunts, I hunt back.
