Because on that very day, a man decided to steal a machine and run away to explore all of time and space. What he didn't realize at the time, is that the Girl inside accidentally ran away with him, and she never looked back. But the life of travel in the TARDIS with the Doctor is a dark one. But when the Doctor tries to seal up the cracks in time and space, they pull him into a parallel universe and into his past. In a place he had vowed never to return to, he sees someone he never expected to see again and hears the most remarkable story from this familiar old friend.
