The series follows Helena Portokalos, a 36-year-old, recently left at the altar woman from Chicago, who moves to Los Angeles to pursue a new life after her fiancé left her for another woman. The Rookie Season 1.

Natalie "Nat" Hayes enlisted in the military at 18, where she met Tim Bradford and became his second-in-command. After leaving the Army together in 2007, the two joined the LAPD. Their shared background helped them advance quickly, and during their rookie year they began dating-marrying just two years later. By 2009, Tim had earned his promotion to Training Officer while Natalie was tapped for Detective, fast-tracked into Narcotics, and partnered with her Academy friend, Isabel Blake. But by 2019, everything had changed. Isabel's struggle with addiction began in 2016, and Nat had gone deep undercover in a cartel ring-six months in when a new wave of rookies joined the LAPD. So after one extremely hard day at work when she is back to her lonely apartment she decides "fuck it" and sings up to this blind date thing. How bad could it be? But what happens when a tall, blonde man shows up and Lucy finds herself falling for the guy she has known less than a month? And what if the guy has a secret he has kept from her? Tim Bradford is 31 and a cop. He loves his job, but there is one thing he loves even more, his 3 year old daughter Esmay. He decides not to mention his daughter, this probably won't be anything and he doesn't want to spook the girl off on the first date. Will she walk away from the only man that has ever made her feel like this, or will she become the mother Tim's daughter never had?
