A stupid summer camp in the middle of nowhere. That is where fifteen-and-sixteen-year-olds Jack Barakat and Alex Gaskarth fell in love. They snuck out of their cabins and sat under the stars and talked about their parents and their pasts and their likes and dislikes and flaws and hopes and dreams and just . . . the world. The end of that fateful summer was sad, sure, but they promised to never forget each other, even though they knew they'd never contact each other. And, boy, would it be hard to forget the summer of first love.
A stupid high school near Baltimore. That's where Jack and Alex find each other again, for the better or the worse. For Alex? He's ecstatic. How often is it that you run into your first real love that you can't stop thinking about, for the second time, even though you had no idea how to contact each other? Jack, however, is much less excited about this so-called fateful turn of events. For him, this is a reminder of the ugly words that get spit at him in the hallways, a reminder of how his parents took him coming out, a reminder of how often he makes the comparison of hell and his life in his mind.
Six Feet Under the Stars. A place that doesn't really exist, except for in your mind. A place where two people can be happily together without judgement. A place where love can happen, even for two slightly cynical teenage boys.
