Roger had not returned from the Mohawk. He had chosen a life in his own time and left Brianna behind. As much as she had loved him, she could not follow. In her arms lay her newborn son, and no one knew whether he was capable of traveling through the stones. In the 18th century, however, an unmarried woman with a child was considered a disgrace. To give her son protection, a name, and a future, Brianna had to make a decision. She chose a life in which she could shine, yet her heart continued to burn for the man she had lost.
