It was storming outside right before Midnight. Hawkins sky was colored in a dark grey. Amelia Jasmine Wheeler didn't notice the storm at first. She was too busy tearing apart her bedroom. Drawers yanked open, books tossed aside, clothes scattered across the floor.
Her suitcase lay half-packed on the bed.
"Where is it?" she muttered under her breath, her sticking on her forehead as she dropped on her kness to look under the bed. "Where the hell is it?"
Her passport wasn't on her desk. Not in the shoebox under her bed. Not slipped between book on her shelf. Not anywhere.
She sat back on her heels and let out a shaky breath. The trip was in two days and she needed the passport.
Lightning snaked across the sky. Something fluttered to the floor next to her shoe. a handful of papers she must have knocked loose from the downstairs drawers earlier.
Amelia frowned , picking them up, thinking they were old receipts or house bills Karen had stuffed everywhere.
But the first page wasn't a bill.
It wasn't even adressed to her parents.
Her eyes trailed over the words slowly at first...then faster...then not at all, because suddenly she forgot how to breath.
