A reality show of the Newsies

"Those you've known and lost still walk behind you. All alone, they linger 'till they find you." Jack Kelly has been surrounded by death for most of his life. But after dealing with the death of someone he considers a brother, he is struggling to hold on. Haunted by his passing, Jack can hardly focus on his new life at college and his art. His relationships with his living friends becomes strained as he gets lost in the "what-if"s of his life. That's until things finally start to come together. As his life begins to fall into place in ways he never thought possible, he can't help but wonder if it's his dearly departed friend guiding him in the right direction. Is there someone from beyond helping him to succeed? If so, what is the presence's plan, and what does it have to do with the mystery girl he saw at the funeral? Modern Newsies AU inspired by the song "Those You've Known" from Spring Awakening.

The year is 2005, the month is September, and the newsboys are poor. Poor David Jacobs joins them, only to be chucked right into the drama when the price of the papes is raised. Meanwhile there's all sorts of drama within the group of newsies, and so is there at the newspaper The Sun. There's a lot happening in 2005's Lower Manhattan...

"I know a way." The Joker whispered from across the ballroom, but Cath had no trouble hearing his sultry voice. "I know a way for us to be together, and save Chess, and for you to have your bakery. What do you choose?" "You," she murmured, the words like sweet treacle as they rolled off her tongue. Jest's amber-gold eyes lit up. "Over everything, I choose you." The Joker held his hand out and Catherine was running past the horrified faced and astonished guests. The guards were rushing toward them and Cath feared she wouldn't make it. Jack Kelly is a multimillionaire and the 8th most powerful man in New York. Whilst away on a business trip, his impulsive assistant decides to bring over a visitor. A visitor who reminds Mr Kelly of himself and his humble beginnings. A visitor who can maybe teach Mr Kelly a few valuable lessons... -i suck at summaries. A modern day remake of Newsies, the smash hit Broadway musical and Disney movie. Jack Kelley and his gang work in a news center/bookstore in the mall, and decide to go on strike when Pulitzer, the owner, decides to raise prices but lower wages. With some help from their friends from Brooklyn- ahem, Barnes and Noble, actually- and a feisty young journalist, the boys strike to create a cause, something that everyone can believe in. And maybe even discover themselves along the way. :)
