Elena "Halfway" Highway is the daughter of Jonno Highway and the sister of Stuart Highway. Elena manages to get a job working behind the bar at the Vic. During Elena and Callum's relationship, Elena avoids having sex with him multiple times, leaving Callum confused, although he believes Elena is a virgin and is just nervous. Elena is called up to the army again, and her doctor, Dr. Cosslett, deems her fit to return. Upset by the result of the assessment, Elena tries to harm herself, which is witnessed by Ben Mitchell. Ben accuses Elena of being attracted to bad boys, but Elena denies it. Ben also admits he is attracted to Elena, and they later end up kissing and having sex. Not wanting to begin their life together with a secret hanging over them, Elena confessed to Callum that she cheated on him. Hunter Owen holds the pub hostage, shooting Ben in the process. At the hospital, Ben awakens, and Ben asks Elena on a date, which Elena accepts. Elena breaks down in front of Ben, and Elena tries to kiss Ben, but Ben pushes Elena off, saying she only kisses him when she's drunk. Elena interprets this as full rejection, but Ben reassures Elena that they'll work through it when Elena's sober. Under the advice of Lola, Elena refuses to give up on her and Ben. Ben tells Elena that if she can kiss him in front of everyone, completely sober, he'll go out with her again. Elena then kisses Ben outside the Vic, and Ben agrees to go on a date with her again, with Elena joking that she doesn't want another date after that kiss.
