Since the past few weeks, Jayce has been dreaming about Viktor. His friend, his partner, his coworker. Sometimes Viktor is healthy or cured, but sometimes they fight, or he rejects Jayce. The worst of them are when Viktor is dying. Nevertheless, on rare times, his dreams show him what could have been if they were together. If Jayce's feelings were reciprocated. Even if he never confessed his feelings to Viktor. Because of that, he grows frustrated, angry and exhausted. He blames himself for a lot of things (too much really). He feels like a coward and dwells in a dark place in his mind. That is... Until Jayce falls asleep one time and something unusual happens. Then, Viktor can't take seeing Jayce acting weird anymore and confronts him.

At twenty-four, Viktor was the newly crowned King of Zaun. And the heaviest link in his chain was the betrothal contract to Lord Dimitri. Dimitri was... acceptable. Handsome in a sharp, calculated way, wealthy beyond measure, and from a house whose armies could shore up the crown's weakening borders. He stood before the floor-to-ceiling window of his solar, watching the sun rise over the city. The light, pure and hopeful, felt like a personal insult. Behind him, the rustle of parchment and the soft clink of a quill being set down signaled the end of his morning audience with the commander of his kingsguard. Sir Jayce de Talis. His sworn sword. The man who held Viktor's heart in his gauntleted hands and refused to acknowledge it.

Viktor had known the truth of it, perhaps, but he'd hoped.
