Setting: Arcane Season 2 Act 2. This fanfiction is an AU where Jayce doesn't travel to future Piltover but, like Ekko and Heimerdinger, ends up in an alternate universe where Hextech never existed. Viktor had known the truth of it, perhaps, but he'd hoped. Viktor was sitting on the ground. He was disintegrating too, but slower. Jayce stared at him. Furrowed brow. Tight lips. Viktor rarely got angry. In the past, it used to amuse him. It gave him a weird, childish satisfaction to see Viktor fired up, flaring with life-like fireworks bursting into color. It warmed his heart. Now, it just left behind a sweet, unbearable ache. Whack. Or maybe not.

"Mr. Talis, bored already?" Viktor asked, his tone dry but laced with the faintest trace of amusement. Jayce grabbed a chair from the back with an ear-splitting scrape of metal on tile, the sound grating against Viktor's nerves. Viktor visibly flinched, cringing at the noise. The class burst into laughter at the reaction, while Jayce offered a sheepish grin, clearly unapologetic. He flopped into the chair, sprawling in a lazy posture that made it seem like he belonged here. "Had a free period," Jayce said with a shrug, his voice light and breezy.
