This was my winning entry for Jemcon 2021, an annual convention that celebrates Jem and the Holograms. The Holograms, The Misfits, and The Stingers are invited to attend a music festival. They all find themselves stuck in Phoenix when flights all over the country are canceled due to a mysterious event. To relieve boredom, the bands find themselves at Big Surf Waterpark. Songs, confrontations, and shenanigans soon ensue. The stipulations for the contest were as follows: Jem attending a music festival in your hometown, some kind of global crisis grounds all flights, you had to mention a local landmark, and you had to mention an orange, feathered boa.

It is 2031. World War III just started four months ago and is quickly accelerating past levels of violence any war has seen. Nuclear warfare is at its worst. Jemimah Smith heads out into the wilderness on her own in hopes of finding safety. Before she can get very far, she runs into one of the richest families in the country. One thing leads to another, and she finds herself a mile underground. Now Jem has to find a way to fit in with these people. Will they ever consider her a part of their family?
