August 1914, Jeonju, North Jeolla-do. Twelve-year-old Nam Suho gives a young mermaid a name, and from then on, their lives are intertwined. January 1926, Gunsan, North Jeolla-do. Twenty-four years old, Suho has built up a life living in the shadows of Jeonju.
