He tilts his head back, and even then, she couldn't help but observe the way his Adam's apple bobbed. Jeremiah brought a hand to cover his face as he let out an exasperated huff, as if he had the nerve to get annoyed at her. "Because," he starts, dragging on the start of his sentence as if exhausted already, "You're the only one I know to drink away her feelings with a cup of hot tea on a warm sunny day." a pause, but he soon continues giving her no time to speak, "And, nothing about you can be separated from Conrad. All your thoughts or feelings-no matter how stupid- always revolve around him."
She knew that herself, but hearing it from his own fucking brother made it a hell of a lot worse. She couldn't help but get snappy, "Yeah, okay?" A scoff leaves her lips, "I'm in a relationship with him, of course, I'm going to think about him."
But that's when he raises his head, meeting her eyes with an intense glare that she's rarely seen him use, especially not on her. Then a nudge from under the table, a gentle reminder, "I wouldn't call a fuck-buddy, a relationship, Josie."
Wow, that stung.
Jocelyn...well..., she took a long swing of her tea, gulping down almost half as she tried to dismiss his clearly true statement. He was right, a fuck buddy wasn't a relationship, far from it, but the way he treated her after those times together, he seemed desperate for her, and that didn't register as casual to Jocelyn.
It seemed like he...loved her? So why the cold shoulder this summer? Why avoid her like an asshole rather than find her like he did every summer?
