Pale Ink is an academic work by Henriette Mertz (1898-1985), an American lawyer, patent agent, and ancient historian who argued in her book that Shan Hai Jing described the geography of the America. She set off on a journey to investigate the mountains according to the book, just like an ancient Chinese traveler, with a backpack and her own two feet to measure and survey.

If anyone ever asked General Jing Yuan what some of his favorite moments of the day were, they would be surprised to hear that it wasn't the time spent on the battle field or the training grounds or the Commission meetings.
