"knock, knock" I heard a sharp rattle on the door. It must be "trick or treaters." This year I was ready. I had put a box of water balloons above the door. "Hahaha," this year they would get the trick not the treat. I rushed downstairs to pull the drawstring to soak the "trick or treaters." I heard the sound of popping balloons. I raced to the window. Instead of finding soaked kids with bags of candy I found...........my dad!! Oh no, I was really in trouble now! A thought flashed through my brain, "I could just leave him outside," but i dismissed that thought because I knew he would get in sooner or later then i would be in more trouble. I ran to the door and unlocked it with trembling hands. His face was angry and wet. He should have looked funny, like any other wet person. Instead, he looked flat out scary. Now my whole body trembled. His deep Blue eyes were staring into my lighter brown eyes with such pressure, that it made me feel small and weak. His chapped lips were curved down in a tight frown. "Dad, I just---" "No excuses! I had enough of your stupid pranks! Just go to your room!" his voice was demanding and serious. "Now!" While climbing up the stairs, I heard him mumble, "That boy, when will he learn. He will be 15 soon and he is still pulling stupid pranks."

It's important for young black women and girls to understand that life is what you make it and even though you may have went through a tough childhood or you're going though depression you need to use that as a stepping stone to be better and to strive for greatness.
