SHORT STORY For Lisa, everyday life in Brooklyn wasn't cuttin it, so that's why she was so excited to attend NYU in the fall. As for the summer, she was stuck helping her father out at his local grocery store. Every so often her goofy high school buddies would visit the store- But when this guy, Joey, falls into the clique suddenly, she felt there was something more to him. So she began to find the need to befriend him. Lisa and Joey's friendship would lead to things that neither one of them saw coming.

I'm writing this book to show that black love is real, young love is real, and just because the media and world see us like we don't have to see ourselves that way.

But nothing good came from being here. "You're in one of your moods again." She says, softly, moving closer to him on the bed. He had begged her to stay with him last night because he was hurt. He was emotionally unstable and she was the only person who could really put up with him. Because she often put up with Steez. She was the closest thing to Steez, so when he left, she broke apart and it took her two years to be put back together. Now she has to put him back together and he felt bad. He didn't want to be so dependent on her but he couldn't help it. She was the only connection to Steez he had left, and he needed that. Maybe that's why he loved her. Maybe it was because he could feel Steez in her.
