For a heartbeat she stood frozen, caught in trance of everything unsaid between them. Then, just as quickly, the ache in her chest flared, reminding her why she left in the first place. At Thorpe Abbotts Ruby met Gale Cleven who was known as Buck. Ruby worked as a nurse and helped out on base wherever she could. Buck Cleven was a Major and pilot of the 100th Bombardment Group. With a war going on Ruby would have never thought of falling in love, especially not with a pilot.

Kathryn Egan just wanted to follow her brother over to Europe. She didn't intend on making waves in the medical field and she certainly didn't intend on falling in love with her brother's best friend, Gale Cleven. She should've known that a love like theirs was doomed in this time of war. All she knows is that one way or another, she's getting them through this war-even if it means going to the front-lines herself.
