What if Margaret was an event photographer and John owned a concert venue? A modern AU story, set in the not-quite-current day United States. As Thornton battles bitterly with Margaret's rejection, and she in turn struggles to come to terms with her true feelings for the northern mill owner, an ailing Mrs Hale decides to intervene. Will her final gift to her daughter be enough to save this classic couple?

Reputations, like the delicate petals of a Helstone rose, are fragile things indeed... Upon discovering Margaret in the arms of an unknown man, John intervenes. Things turn differently when Margaret's sister shows up.

John Thornton. He was tall. Handsome for his age and was not the one for a real social conversation. A wealthy cotton mill owner in the north. Madeline Teller. She was young, beautiful and yet head strong. A clergyman's daughter from the south. When their paths suddenly meet after months of strict hiding, John finds that he loves her. Thorin brought his teeth together, he still spoke too much and often, a poor habit that his young nephews were beginning to pick up. His eyes were drawn towards the south-side barracks, where the city of Dale sat in the distance; he allowed his mind to wander to the curly-haired, bright-eyed fellow that had shouted at him earlier. An alternate imagining of Mrs. Gaskell's story, assuming Margaret had been hurt more seriously on the day of the riot. Intertwines elements of both the book and the BBC series, but focuses less on angst and more on the relationship of John Thornton and Margaret Hale.

Margaret and John Marry after John reinstated his declaration of love and John hearing Margaret's declaration of love. What if John starts to worry about Margaret during the time she announces she's carrying their child to the point he injures himself? He knew many woman had perished when or a few days after they brought a child into the world.

As a homage to North &South (BBC 2004)＊＊ Why were you in Helstone?__ If Margaret asked John on the train, what would he answer? How would his mother react? And Higgins? I couldn't help but imagine and make a kind of sequel after watching the movie. I'm a Japanese and not good at writing a story in English.
