A 16 year old Cassie Bang moves from Outer Banks North Carolina to Des Moines Iowa, and she tries to solve the problems of misogyny at her new school while also dealing with her home life and drug problems. She also faces the problems of her future, will she go to college and finish her 'dreams' of studying history? Or will she go the feminist punk way with her shitty guitar? Or will she face the problem of love.. SPOILER!!: this book is really just about Cassie and her story, joey is mentioned in it but in later chapters, joey is definitely more mentioned and in the story more!!

She decides to take a vacation to visit her friend, Angeline and get her perspective on her plans to change her life. That is until Angeline brings her situation to the attention of her father and uncles. They help her get a job and a place to stay. The one problem?
