During the fight to get to Dio's mansion the group had lost Iggy and Avdol to Dio's followers. But the death that affected Jotaro the most was the loss of his lover, Kakyoin. They had revealed their feelings for each other during the trip to Egypt at a hotel, where they decided to keep their relationship a secret from the rest of the group until they returned to Japan. But all that fell apart when they faced off Dio. As the years go by, Jotaro's mental health has begun deteriorating, blaming himself for letting Kakyoin die.
