Disclaimer! This basic description was rushed so I'm super sorry if it's not the best summary! I'm also not very good with front cover pages haha. 😊 Warning! This story includes violence and occasional swearing! Ema and Louis live in an orphanage in a small town in Kurgan, Russia. Their parents were sent to Siberia as a punishment during wwI when the twins were still very little. When wwII broke out, Louis was sent to help the Cossack soldiers. However the second world war had already begun, and nearly nobody is aware. In fact, they just carried on with their ordinary lives. As Ema stays behind at the orphanage, she meets a new friend, who's brother happens to be on the train with Louis. As siblings reunite, they all find a way out of Russia, and as far away as possible from the war. However, things go downhill after they get captured by a German troop. Fortunately, they befriend a German boy who happens to be about their age. The boy has no family in Germany with him, since his mother died of pneumonia, and his dad is on a U-boat journey. The five friends get invited to help on a submarine themselves, but realize later on they had made a mistake. Friends are lost and trust is broken. Will the friends survive world war, or will they meet the end of their journey?
