In an almost silent whisper, the tall, muscular man tells me his plan.
"I'm letting you free because you are one of my kind. You need to run as fast as your legs can carry you. Turn right when you see a stable and don't stop until the sun makes your shadow as long as the great willow tree at the corner of Crimson St. and Boyer Ave. That is where you will find refuge and supplies. I'll be there at dawn."
He grabs my bony arms and pushes me to the opening to the outside world. Gees, I've missed the sky so much. The clouds are hiding today, and only the beaming sun can be seen. Plains are to the left as far as the eye can see.
"Thank you," I reply to the
hushed man who may or may not be saving my life.
