Justinian Stories

The Byzantine Empire is the last bastion of the once powerful Roman Empire. Royce, a young servant working for Emperor Justinian gets a front row seat as Justinian attempts to retake Rome and reclaim the love of the people.

The year 527 AD/CE. The Western Roman Empire and by extent Rome has fallen to the the Ostrogoths, just 50 years earlier. But that is about to change, for Emperor Justin of The Eastern Roman Empire, Or The Byzantine Empire, has died, his successor is his nephew, Petrus Sabbatius, rechristened as Flavius Petrus Sabbatius Iustinianus, or Justinian I. He has many ambitions, but his greatest ambition is to reclaim Rome, the Eternal City, seat of The Roman Empire. But he needs a commander. That commander shall be a great man as destiny shall show, but forgotten in the Halls of The Past. Let history remember the great Belisarius!

Taking place long before the "Chronicles of World Paradise" series. Constantinople, the early 500s A.D., the reign of Justinian and Theodora: This is the story of my brother Theodoros, who was born female, and yet he is male, and struggles with what is 'masculinity' according to society and according to himself, debating what he should do to fulfill society's expectations of a 'man'. But this is more than that. This is the journey of his self-discovery, what being a man means to him.

A paper I have been writing on and off for awhile, going over the history of Byzantium as concisely as I can.

The Byzantine campaign against Gelimer, who seized the Vandal throne, was a crucial military operation to reclaim former Roman provinces in the Mediterranean region. Procopius, our sole source on the Vandalic War, attributes the victory to General Flavius Belisarius's skill and leadership. In addition to battling the enemy, Belisarius had to navigate the political intrigues of the East Roman court. In my narrative, I emphasize the naval aspects of the engagement and its historical significance.

A ten minute short story, based on the legend of the general Belisarius being blinded by his Emperor, Justinian. It is almost certainly a legend, and not fact, but it makes for an interesting story.

She sells the best food, and she has Thomas: the boyfriend she feels somewhat attracted to. But, it's about time her past caught up with her, and when it does, she has to make a choice. Will she choose her ex-husband, her rich fiance, a deputy who works in Mongolia, her cafe assistant, a friend from middle school with a bird, or someone else? It is a rocky road for Theodora, and now it is up to her to make a choice: Who is her soulmate?
