Before you read: The first couple of chapters are a bit rough. They are by no means a reflection of my writing now. However, I do believe that they aren't bad, so long as you don't mind the pacing. Anyway, here's the description: Kai, Nya and Lloyd have... an interesting home life, to say the least. Their parents, Maya and Ray, are world travelling scientists pushing for the next major breakthrough in oceanic discoveries, and with their legacy overshadowing their children, barely know the kids they had "raised." Kai, the eldest, was forced to step up for his siblings at a young age during his parent's frequent "business trips," sacrificing most of his early adolescence in an attempt to preserve what little remained of his brother and sister's childhood. With their parents largely out of the picture, the Smith children make friends, build relationships, and begin to thrive without the oppressive weight of Maya and Ray's impossible expectations and crippling absence. Sure, things are imperfect, and some parts of their lives loom over their heads like storm clouds, but what they have is theirs, untouchable and wholly their own. Until one day it all falls apart. Three years later, Kai is finishing up high school when his parents decide to show up again- this time for good. As the drama of the healing family's lives build up, someone begins to quake from the pressure. Will they be able to keep their secret? Will old connections be reforged? Will they finally be a family again, after so many years of distance and bitterness? And most of all, what will happen when the chips come down? Read on to find out! Nya Murchadh was raised in an orphanage for boys, which suited her just fine. She didn't like playing with dolls, she could hold her own in a fight, and she loved to invent. When she first arrived, navigating the ups and downs of being the only girl wasn't easy, especially with Mr. Miller out to get her, but after a few years, the orphanage becomes a sort of home for her. But after Mr. Miller outlaws inventing for her, she decides she just can't stay. Navigating the streets isn't easy, but maybe an old sensei might hold the key to a new, better life... The story is better than the summary.
