This is both, a review of an Indian extravaganza film experience-Kalank-, as well as a meditation on language, relevance, costume, and time.

Kalank's core theme is a question. Is love a stain or an embellishing imprint? (Throwback to Surf Excel's 'Daag Acche Hain' campaign) This film is a mark on a surface (it can be the lens through which it was shot or maybe the screen through which we look at it). Whether this spot is smeary or ornamental is not the point of concern. The real issue is that this surface(canvas) is spurted with a random splash of vibrant colors that reduce this spot to a minuscule freckle - The theme, the idea it all swipes out of the focus and is only reiterated through a 'title' song and an epilogue at the very end.

I have switched the characters around a little bit. Dev is the one who is marrying into the family. Roop is an unwed mother. Balraj is the man with a plan. Originally I wanted to use Timmy Xu as Dev, but I thought it would be confusing to see a Chinese guy in an Indian movie setting LOL.
