Nearly five weeks after the events of Crooked Kingdom, Inej has set sail in her new war ship leaving Kaz to figure out how to function without her, and Wylan and Jesper to keep him from doing something stupid. Only three days after her departure, a mysterious assassin appears seeking revenge on Inej, and Jesper is given a note with an offer for Inej. An offer to join an invisible guild of assassins. Follow the crows as they try to handle one last adventure, the shadows of their pasts, and their plans for the future. (A/N This is mostly a Kanej fanfic. Remember, it's only a game... 3 years after the events of Crooked Kingdom, Kaz, Inej, Nina, Jesper, and Wylan each wake up on Isla de los Sueños alone. In a modern-day Ketterdam, Kaz Brekker is just trying to get along with his 'perfect, loving family' (They aren't.) This is a retelling of the musical Next to Normal with our favorite Crows- and a big brother- along for the ride! I have of course changed some things from the musical to fit in more with the characters of the Crows, but the basic plot will be the same! No need to know the show either, it's a full story in and of itself!

On what seems like a normal day, Jesper gets back to his and Wylan's apartment to find that Wylan isn't there, which is very unlike him. He isn't answering his phone and none of the other crows have seen him in the last hour. After a couple of hours Jesper gets worried and tries to contact him but with no answer he doesn't know what to do, until eventually he gets a call. Life in the Barrel has never been easy, and it isn't about to get any easier. Kaz has some intel on the one and only Pekka Rollins being back in town along with a new plan. How will this mission play out and how could the Crows Finally rid of Pekka Rollins? Pekka Rollins has been dethroned, and Kaz must do his best to claim the title of King of The Barrel, but the competition is nearly as cunning as he is, and the ever-changing web of alliances in Ketterdam is already shifting, learning to operate without its late ruler. The monster of a city has a way of keeping one disoriented, new foes crop up and businesses collapse in the blink of an eye. Timing is key, but Kaz has underestimated just how crucial it is, and how hard it will be to gather information with his ex-Wraith flitting in and out of the city. Inej has her ship, and has reunited with her parents but everything is not quite so perfect as it seems. She didn't realize how hard it would be to see her parents again after everything she's been through. No longer an innocent child, she struggles to explain everything she's done. They understand what was survival, and there is no blame for her actions, but her parents recoil at her ideas of hunting down slavers, labeling it brash and foolish. Which it just may be, lacking a true foundation and plan. She can't simply go cavorting about the open sea and hope to find slavers. So she turns to Kaz, in the hopes of starting something new, to root out the worst of the worst, on the seas and in the city.
