• IN PROGRESS • An old, fan-written backstory revived and remastered due to boredom and an old, childhood fondness of Karl, the resin pirate. This story tells the tale of Karl's beginning, a boy born into a life on the sea, with a father who captained one of the deadliest ships to ever sail it. Born and raised a fierce pirate, Karl would grow up in a harsh life, albeit one he would learn to take pride in. Beloved by his father's crew, he would be protected at all costs until he learned to protect himself. When that day came, the young pirate proved to be a vicious fighter, with an unshaken loyalty to those he loved and an inherent dedication to the waters they sailed. But there comes a time when all fierce warriors fall. The sky wept for the lack of light, strangled by dark clouds hovering over New York City. It was a rare moment where the streets weren't filled with people, most taking refuge from the wailing sky. A young man and a raccoon take the opportunity to amble on home, basking in the solace the rain has brought. A scream, child-like and terrified, tears through the solitude. The man snaps his head up, a single violet eye peeking through dark bangs, confused and slightly annoyed. The raccoon chitters loudly and leaps off of the man's shoulder. "Karl?! What-" The man reaches forward in an attempt to grab the raccoon before it could run off, missing by a hair. He curses under his breath and begins to run after the animal. The rain falls harder, nearly blinding the man. He nearly slides off of his feet as he turns a corner, almost catching Karl. Something, no, someone, slams into him. He falls back with a huff, landing hard on the flooded street. Both eyes are revealed as he looks down, frowning. His expression freezes at the sight of sunset-colored eyes, terrified and lost. Tiny hands, pale and bruised, covered in scars, reach up to grab his shirt. "Tasukete!" Nothing is the same since. - I've had this thought for a while, because I think Edgar deserves some love (I love both the author and this character SO much) and I also think Edgar and Atsushi would get along so well. I haven't read or watched much of BSD, but I am reading as I go, so if things are inconsistent... I'm blaming it on the canon divergence. :P Anyways, I hope you all enjoy!
