"You can't really think I would come to a dinner gathering," Kathrine huffed, bewildered. "Please forgive me, but you're insane! I barely know you!"
The Duke laughed, a low, deep chuckle, which made his shoulders shake and his eyes crinkle on the edges.
"I can assure you, I am far from insane," the Duke mused, peering at the astonished woman. "It is the least I can do for you..." He paused, trying to recall if she had told him her name.
"Kathrine," The woman said, peering at the Duke.
"Well, Kathrine. If you would accompany me to the gathering, you can see for yourself I am not insane."
Kathrine hesitated. Accompany him? To a gathering? She couldn't wait long to answer or it would seem rude, after all he was the Duke.
"It would be my honor," Kathrine spoke. "Thank you, my Duke, for this lovely opportunity."
The Duke laughed again, but it was weary.
"Please, " He sighed, "Call me Alexander."
