Shinji Ikari is lonely and depressed. He has no real friends and his father hates him. He feels like he's lost all hope. That is, until a boy named Kaworu Nagisa comes into his life. And their shared love of music grows into something much more.

Jealousy and anger dominate Shinji's feelings, but as he gets to know Kaworu, these feelings soften and turn into something else. Takes place in the reality where there are no angels or Evangelions. Shinji and Kaworu meet again in a world where no angels need to be fought or evas to be piloted and everything seems perfect until Kaworu finds out that Shinji suffers from heart failure. As they both struggle to find happiness, Shinji tries out different treatments until only to be left with no option in the end.
