The Kudous family were blessed with twin boys, the eldest being Shinichi and the youngest being Akitoshi. Both were highly intelligent individuals, though the latter preferred being average and allowed the eldest to bask in the spotlight. This mislead Shinichi's understanding of his twin. It wasn't until Shinichi had become Conan that he actually noticed Akitoshi's underlying intellect. Thus leading to more unanswered questions rather than answers.
