In the years after Illéa became a constitutional monarchy, the transition proved less simple than Queen Eadlyn had predicted, and unrest continued to grow. A new and violent faction of Northern Rebels led by Marid Illéa eventually rose up and stormed the palace killing the royal family, except for, as the rumors say, the young Princess Kerttu. Across the seas in France, Ahren Schreave, the prince consort to Queen Camille, has heard the rumors his beloved niece survived at the hands of the rebels and is willing to do anything to find her. In Illéa, a poor orphan named Kate is struggling to survive the rough world of Illéa under Marid's rule while trying to break through heavy amnesia to remember her past. When her likeness to the missing princess is spotted by two brothers looking to cash in on an offer from the French Royal Family for the return of their lost niece, Kate starts to wonder if the dreams she has of glittering palaces and the warm embrace of a mother and father are more than just her imagination.
