Once upon a time, nine-teen-year-old Sky would have been happy with simply getting away from her controlling aunt and living her dream of going to medical school with her childhood friend Anne. But her simple story would be thrown out the window the night she meets twenty-one-year-old Alexander Hunter, one of the most sought after bachelors in the world. But that's not what threw her off, no she had been around rich people her own life. But watching one of his friends slitting the throat of a man tied to a chair did. From that night on Sky is sent into a world of questions and things only get worse went she finds out her family has its own dark secrets.

It's simple, really. Just follow the rules. And you'll get rewarded. And if you don't follow them? Although everyone is provided for on a basic level, those who stick to the rules and those who are promising to the Government get a higher income and more privileges. Callisto is lucky, her father is a Loyalist- a highly respected Government officer- and so she already has an elevated status. Everyone is happy with the society. Except the Outcasts. Since 2200, the Government has been collecting kids that were different. That made mistakes. That were labeled a danger to their perfect society and deposited on the other side of the wall. Now, there's a whole community of Outcasts there. The Government claims that they're generous and have allowed the Outcasts to flourish instead of killing them off. Every year, there's checks throughout Haven City to root out any anomalies and those who are deemed different are taken away and no one ever sees them again. But those who follow the rules and contribute to the Government have nothing to worry about, like Callisto. The Dragon gave the Royals sixteen years to better themselves and teach their heir to the thone to be an honest, caring individual. If the Princess was coronated with a selfish heart everyone in the castle who had done wrong to the people would die. The top three Witches of the court decided on a plan to save the Princess and everyone else included in the curse, taking the spindle it is bound to and altering the curse so that, if it struck, they would all fall into an eternal slumber. Fifteen years later, Briar Rose is shocked to learn that the biggest threat to her daily life isn't Dragons swooping down from the sky to eat her or dying from boredom out in the middle of the woods. It's a curse that can lead to her whole countries decimation. Having been born with the Gift for Magic, she was trained to be a Curse Breaker by proclamation of High King Henric himself and now knows that her Godmothers have been preparing her to fight the Curse the Dragon bestowed at that ill-fasted Ball all those years ago. With one year to get the most practical experience possible in Curse Breaking, Briar Rose heads out with the map her Godmothers gave her, tracking down places of extreme curses while they head back to Skyfort, the castle where the cursed spindle resides, to protect it from those who would inadvertently worsen the curse they struggled to amend. It just so happens that the nearest safehouse contains more secrets than Clara was willing to uncover. To get to the bottom of all the Captain America nonsense and whoever this metal armed assassin is, she'd have to go back in time. And we all know that's not possible. Right?
