Cambodia, 1975: Jakob, an ex-Nazi hiding in Southeast Asia, has built a quiet new life as a lake dweller - far from justice, and far from his own haunted conscience. But, as the genocidal Khmer Rouge rise and history seems set to repeat itself, Jakob finds he is the only one able to protect a family and people he has come to love.
