This is an analysis of the intriguing poem by Jamaica Kincaid. She is an author who lived on the Caribbean island of Antigua before it became independent from England in 1981, who shares her thoughts on England in a time of oppression. I will first put my analysis, for those who only need help looking at the poem you already have in the light of another reader, myself. If you want to read the actual poem by Kincaid, it will be in the text too, after my analysis. I hope you enjoy reading this work as much as I did! Note: if you choose to use some of the ideas I have presented, please be sure to cite me, I do not appreciate my thoughts on this topic being taken without recognition! Thank you :)

Years of killings destroy a person. All Sidney Prescott feels she can do is run, so she does. Pushing people away, she finds herself alone with only one comfort: alcohol, in a dimly-lit bar full of people unknown to her. She's found a new routine in life, but her past always seems to come back. After a few shots, her past isn't the only thing to return. Kincaid walks in through the old, wooden doors of the bar.

This is a translated copy of the 1988 narrative essay written by Jamaica Kincaid (A Small Place), after contacting the publishing company, there was no interest in purchasing the translation-I told my student I would help them publish their translation as a free resource then and provide them with credits in the event that someone is interested in reaching the translator.
