THEY NEVER WANTED ANYTHING FOR THEMSELVES EXCEPT EACH OTHER. The summer before Kismat's second year of college she travels to London with her family for a wedding, when she arrives she soon realizes the one getting married is her. She is engaged to Ruben Johal who is kind hearted, intelligent and charming but he has a best friend named Jason Gill. Jason is the complete opposite he is mean, sarcastic and unwelcoming. They bump heads from the moment they meet but for the first time in her life does Kismat want something for herself? Is Jason ready to let someone in revealing his torturous past and is he willing to lose his best friend? They both have been hurt by the people closest to them making them grow up too soon, leaving them alone until they met each other. Kismat Grewal has sheltered herself from the world, hiding her emotions and making sure no one got too close. She is independent, never relied on her family or showed any sense of weakness. She never believed in love or had the option of ever being in a relationship. She never let herself get caught up in the idea of a love marriage because she was always going to have an arranged one. She grew up watching her mother get abused by her father who was an alcoholic, she financially started supporting herself and her brother when she was 16. Jason Gill comes across as the typical bad boy but he is damaged and has been alone for as long as he could remember, his father is an alcoholic who cheated on his mother daily and would abandon him for months at a time. He shelters his emotions because the thought of letting anyone other than Ruben in has never been an option. His mother passed away from cancer the summer before Jason's senior year of high school. The only person Jason could truly depend on was his best friend Ruben Johal who was like a brother to him for the past 10 years.
