story is set in an alternative universe where eggman has enslaved his own kingdom of mobians into 4 different sections. 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬, warriors/fighters, 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐛𝐬, nature/agriculture farmers, 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐬, prosperity/wealth, and finally 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬, love/emotion/affection. over time, each section became a worse version of themselves. hearts became bitter and mean, diamonds became greedy, clubs became poor and considered lower class, and spade became robotized for eggman's gain. shadow has taken up the role as eggman's right hand man, manipulated into helping what was left of his connection to maria. the story picks up after some time of shadow bonding and getting to know sonic. sonic has informed shadow of the manipulation and told him of his plan to revolt against eggman for mobian freedom.

Merlin is still technically a citizen of Essitir, and the new regents decide it's time he served his own kingdom instead of Camelot. The Knights know of Merlin's magic, so does King Arthur. They all try to find a way to free Merlin without causing a war. Mostly the POV of Arthur and the Knights to show their worry and concern over Merlin's well-being. I ship Merwaine, but a nice touch of Merwaincelot added in.
