Ambientada dos años antes de los eventos de "Komi-san wa, Komyushō desu", la historia sigue la vida de Chuushaku Kometani, un joven amigable aspirante a escritor, cuyo declive emocional lo lleva a transformarse en el extrovertido comentarista y amigo de Shouko Komi y Hitohito Tadano. Chuushaku Kometani tiene una rivalidad fuerte con su hermana mayor, Hanna Kometani (La dueña de un exitoso banco, llamado: «H.K»). Ambos hacen una apuesta: Si Chuushaku logra terminar y publicar su libro antes de fin de año, ella pagará su preparatoria. Si él pierde, tendrá que trabajar como su secretario en el banco.
