What if kenric never died? this takes place after stellarlune where everyone thinks that the Neverseen has been captured, but lady gisela demanded a meeting with the black swan and the council saying that she has a trade for them in the first chapter the black swan and the council are at havenfield wondering what she wants and what she could trade. The world thought Kenric died. And maybe somewhere deep down, a little part of him had in the time he'd spent in the Neverseen's clutches. But it didn't matter when he saw her. None of it mattered. Only her. Oralie's world was gone. All she could do was put one step in front of the other, desperately hoping everything she'd ever worked for was not for nothing. She was drowning, but it didn't matter. None of it mattered. Because he was gone. ~ Oralie always thought she'd step down with Kenric once this was all over. She'd spend the rest of her life with him. It never occurred to her that by the time this ended, he'd be gone. Now she's falling apart, and no one's there to pick up the pieces. But when a showdown with the Neverseen reveals their possession of a hostage that could throw the Lost Cities into chaos, she's torn once more between her duties and her love. The whole world is depending on her to do the right thing. But he is her whole world. As Emery said in book 5, "We had our own Splotching match of sorts to test it out before we came here today-but that's a story for another time." Kenric couldn't forget the flames. Burning him over and over. But it was only a dream. Right? Kenric suffers from chronic, recurring nightmares that seem more real after each night.
