Kakashi thinks he's in for a nice break, free from students, after Naruto's recent departure with Jiraiya, but he hadn't counted on a beautiful stranger turning up in Konoha whom Tsunade thinks would become a powerful asset were she to be trained as ninja. Here begins a slow fascination Kakashi hadn't ever imagined...maybe he can forgive the loss of his extra reading time, after all... When Kakashi finds a thoroughly beaten kuniochi not far from Konoha, it turns out that she has two pasts with the hidden village - one fresh, raw and bitter with the bloody tears of others and another, far older one, long forgotten by the one who owns it. From her own mouth, she'll tell you she has nothing to repent for, but ask any villager of Konohagakure (and countless other villages), they'll tell you the exact opposite is true: that she's a hardened, twisted criminal who needs to pay for her crimes. Even for a genius, able to see multiple scenarios and angles, it's still not clear where the truth begins and ends... And Tsunade's suggestion to think of it in terms of: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend," hardly helps. How is he supposed to accept someone who represents everything that he's learned to hate? Challenge comes in many forms and when a particularly difficult mission arises for the kuniochi and her silver-haired lover, they manage to keep themselves professional, but Kakashi finds that his old demons have found new ways in which to haunt him, and the stakes seem unfathomably high.
