After moving cities halfway before her second year in junior high, Ayame Kokoro mostly kept to herself. One evening after dinner, she comes across Tetsurō Kuroo and Kenma Kouzen playing volleyball, a sport she fell in love with after watching the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games and a new friendship was formed. In her first year of high school, one small mishap has her joining the track and field club instead of the volleyball club. By her second year, Ayame had quit the track and field club. Stuck in a rut and unsure of what to do next, Kuroo manages to convince her to help at some of the boys volleyball team's practices in hopes of reigniting her long-standing passion for volleyball. What neither were expecting was something possibly igniting between the two of them.
