For his whole life Kylin Hickory has lived in the Nomian Institute, a place dedicated to learning and science. One day, however, when the Institute is attacked and many of the scholars killed, Kylin is taken prisoner by the strange people and brought to their base, an underground system of caverns called The Lorin. Once there, he is told that these people can show him how to unlock his full potential. Curious and afraid of what they would do if he refused, Kylin agrees and soon meets three other trainees, Ferryn Raymon, a siren from (-), Emberly Teminer, a fire Kilikopal (elemental), and Arden Jeston, a sarcastic Iromior (winged people). Immediately, harsh training is begun and before Kylin can even determine whether these people are good, he and his new friends are sent on a mission to kill. Kylin must come to terms with who he has become or betray the people he now calls friends to try and become who he once was.
