He rarely discussed the fact that he was transgender, and for his own safety, he only told close relatives and friends he trusted. Alexander was a 20 year old college student. He was raised in a strict Christian family where he was taught that it was a sin to sleep with the same gender, and/or change your body. Due to that, he developed internalized homophobia.
