Connor leaned a little farther forward. The waves below were churning. He envisioned what it might be like: slipping from the edge, plummeting down and down and down until his body collided with the water, swallowed by the great black void. Hands scrambling for a purchase in the water, air leaching from his throat, until his vision faded to black and he lost all feeling. Alana is a lost girl in high school who tries too hard to fit in with those around her. Zoe is a broken daughter in a broken family who needs something good to hold onto. Evan is an anxiety-ridden boy who doesn't know how to connect with those around him. Connor is a troubled teenager who can't seem to find any light in the world or himself. Jared is a walking jokester who uses humor to compensate for his loneliness. But when Connor's attempted suicide fails and all five are connected to the event, how will their stories unravel? Y/n Murphy struggles with mental illnesses she wishes she had control over. On the first day of senior year, she's already high and ready to skip the day and end it all. When her mom doesn't stand down, she reluctantly leaves the Murphy household, her pessimism heavy on her shoulders. During the school day, she encounters Evan Hansen, a boy who got the wrong impression of her. When they talk to each other in the computer lab, it changes Y/n's view completely. Maybe this is her chance to make a friend. Throughout hanging out with Evan, Y/n grows feelings for the shorter boy, and soon she grows reckless, but full of a small amount of hope. She tries desperately not to ruin the relationship she has with him. This could be the start of something new. Something amazing. Now, all her hope is pinned on Evan. Maybe he's the page turner in the long, dull chapters of her life. Maybe he's the light to her darkness.
