Seventeen-year-old Avery Carter has spent every summer of her life at Evermore Lake. Her parents and their bestfriends have vacationed there together for nearly twenty years. Same house, same traditions, same people.
Which means every summer has also included Ethan Reed.
Ethan is her older brothers bestfirend. Three years older, annoyingly protective, the guy who taught her how to fish when she was ten, patched her scraped knees at twelve, and left for college without looking back when she was fifteen.
Avery hasn't seen him in almost two years.
This summer is different.
Her family might sell the lake house, it could be their last summer at Evermore Lake.
And Ethan comes back different- quieter, older, harder to read.
At the same time, Avery is falling apart a little. Her friendships back home are changing. College applications are getting real. Everything feels like it's moving forward too fast.
Then one night after a fight with her friends, Avery ends up at sitting alone at the dock.
Ethan finds her.
And somehow dock conversations become late night drives. Late night drives become boat rides at sunrise. Boat rides become almost hand holding and lingering looks and feelings Avery promised herself she got over years ago.
But Ethan leaves again for collge across the country in August and Avery goes back for her senior year.
And Avery knows summer never lasts forever.
