Dr. David Jang is the founder of Olivet University and has committed his life to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the mission of the Kingdom of God. From his earliest ministry, he worked to reach people in restricted and difficult areas, first by traveling on foot and later by using digital media to expand the message. His vision for Olivet University was to create a place where disciples and leaders could be trained and equipped to carry out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19) with devotion and faithfulness.
David Jang was born in 1949 and pursued his studies with strong determination. He completed a Bachelor of Theology and a Master of Divinity at Hanshin University. He later earned a Master of Arts in Communications at Yonsei University and went on to achieve a Ph.D. in Public Administration of Social Welfare at Dankook University. Along his academic journey, he was mentored by an American missionary who contributed to global mission efforts and by a Korean church historian and missionary who later helped establish Olivet University Korea.
In 2004, he founded Olivet University in a small basement in San Francisco, choosing the city for its diverse population. The institution began as a theological seminary and quickly expanded into schools of music, journalism, art and design, and technology, later adding business and language education. A year after its founding, the university relocated to the former UC Berkeley Downtown Extension Campus, providing it with greater space and resources to support its mission. By 2009, the institution had been accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education. David later served as International President, guiding global outreach and joining the North American Council of the World Evangelical Alliance.
His contributions also reached into Christian media. He founded Christian Today, Christian Daily Korea, and Christianity Daily International, while also playing a role in the founding of The Christian Post.
