"Life is like a rose bush." He was staring at the stars. "How so?" I was confused. He looked at me. No, not in a romantic way. He didn't look at my breasts like a regular teenage boy would. He didn't put his hand anywhere on me. He could've, but he didn't. He looked at me like a normal person. He looked into my eyes and I looked into his. His innocent, ocean blue eyes. "Life is like a rose bush. Everything seems fine and beautiful. If you make one wrong move, you could end up in pain." Somehow, the beauty faded from the rose bush as I ended up making a wrong move and ending up in the thorns.

Chandler Ducrot has spent seventeen years in the foster care system alongside his older brother. Since the age of ten, he has found himself entangled in frequent brushes with the law due to running away from less-than-desirable foster homes. One night, he is picked up by the police and placed in a foster home that is described to him as the best emergency placement anyone at the station has ever seen. He discovers that his new foster parents are both employed at a prestigious boarding school where his foster father serves as the dean of students, and his foster mother teaches English. Now living at the boarding school, Chandler finds himself facing an entirely new set of challenges. Larke Leighton is assigned to mentor Chandler. Sent to Cresthaven Academy by her parents after their divorce, it is the only place that feels like home now. While both struggle to open up due to their troubled pasts, their shared experiences gradually create an unbreakable bond. Chandler views the school as a temporary refuge until he can break free from the system, while Larke is terrified to graduate and be alone in the world. As their connection deepens, Chandler and Larke navigate their respective challenges, discovering that love and trust can heal wounds that once seemed permanent.

As someone with ADHD, I have heard the same things over and over. The title speaks for itself. This is a book for my fellow ADHDers, and I hope this is relatable to you all. I also hope that this book reaches those who do not have ADHD. If you have a friend that has this then maybe this will help you understand how our brain works. Our brain does not work the same. I hope to not only reach other ADHDers but also help people understand that we are people too. 31 in education out of 13.4K stories 9/21/23

CONTENT WARNING: description of injury/blood. This is a memoir/personal narrative essay that I wrote for my Junior English class back in 2015. I ended up winning a Silver Key for it in the Maine Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and had it published in a book: Maine Teen Writing 2016, a collection of works written by middle and high school students. It has its flaws, but this memoir helped me take the first big step to becoming a "real" writer. Enjoy! -Cierra L Anctil (P.S., I'm new to this whole Wattpad thing, so I couldn't figure out how to "tab" new paragraphs. Sorry if the formatting seems odd because of that!)

Ruth has a secret: she is mentally unable to retain information she doesn't find striking or interesting, long term or short term. The second something's in front of her she knows it instinctively, like one knows their own name, acing all her exams effortlessly and answering questions with ease - however, she has no idea what she looks like until she sees herself in the mirror, knows little to nothing about pop culture, and often-times forgets her own address. In fear of what would happen if someone found out about her condition, Ruth goes through her life pretending to be normal: going as far as feigning delinquency and rarely attending classes as to not draw attention to herself or her apparent intelligence. However, when in her senior year of high school, one of her classmates Abel finds out that she receives stellar grades without any obvious effort and wants in, blackmailing her into tutoring him so he can graduate with his class. The more time they spend together, the more they begin to become friends - and the closer Ruth gets to Abel, the closer Abel get's to the truth. Soon enough, Ruth finds herself involved in a calculated game of chess with a boy who doesn't even know he's playing - and to her horror, he's winning.
