At Pampanga State University, there is a freshman who seems to have only one problem: surviving college. A new dormitory. Five unfamiliar people sharing one room. A university that feels too big. Conversations she never knows how to start. A home she misses even when she is only a few kilometers away. An allowance she feels guilty receiving. And a family whose history taught her that love does not always mean staying. But there is something else she carries-something she never tells people when they ask why she chose Psychology. She usually laughs. "Kasi broad." Sometimes she says there are not enough psychologists. Both answers are true. Neither is the real reason. As her first semester begins, an ordinary Introduction to Psychology class forces her to look backward-to a time when psychology wasn't yet the science she knows today. Before laboratories, theories, experiments, and psychologists with names she struggles to remember, there were questions. Questions about the mind. Questions about behavior. Questions about why people become who they become. And strangely enough, the more she learns about how psychology was born, the more she begins to recognize pieces of her own life in its history. Between sleepless nights, awkward dorm conversations, old friends who know too much, new classmates who know almost nothing, and memories she would rather leave buried, she discovers something she never expected: Maybe understanding psychology was never just about passing a prerequisite course. Maybe she has been trying to understand herself all along. But before she can understand the mind... She has to confront the parts of her own that she has spent years avoiding.

Sierra was nine years old and was living with two abusive parents who wished that she had never been born. To them, Sierra was a mistake, a malady that was wasting their money by living. Both parents were severe alcoholics, use drugs more than they took their daily supplements, and had been more irresponsible than a toddler in raising their nine year old daughter. All Sierra wanted in life was for someone to love her, to hold her, and tell her that she matters. Unable to cope with what happens to her on a daily basis at home, Sierra goes to extreme measures to escape the realities of the real world. She heads out onto the streets as a runaway to avoid getting beaten by her parents, and in doing so, gets abducted by a new stranger who has a sick plan of forcing people to his will. She meets a group of kids living in an old abandoned mansion in the middle of nowhere where this man has stashed them all. These kids, all abused and alone like her, take her in, and Sierra must learn how to accept people into her life and not be afraid as she once was. Will things turn out for better or for worse with Sierra, and will she ever be able to look at herself without seeing the pathetic girl she viewed herself as before she ran away?

Penelope is just fine with keeping people at a distance because the-middle-of-nowhere Arizona isn't where she plans to stay, even though it's where she's grown up. Once she finishes one more year of community college, she's off to a proper state school to get her architecture degree, but until then she's stuck here, with a few sorta friends who are way too good at socializing, a younger brother who hogs the television in the den to play video games, a dad who thinks architecture is a pipe dream career and a mom who's ready to throw her at any available man in the vicinity, including her gorgeous new neighbor. But new-kid Kai is still pining after his long-distance girlfriend, which is perfectly fine to Penelope. Because she's not falling for his stupid dimpled cheeks or the adorable way he gets excited about the smallest things, like the art of using chopsticks. Nope, Penelope Jean is not looking for any reason to stay in her town, especially a boy.

Cylla has been away for years, on a mission more scarring than her left-behind family can imagine. To the outside world, she seems fine, great even. Sure, she smiles less than she used to, and her eyes only twinkle when someone else is around, but nothing seems wrong. Nothing is wrong, right? Her friends can't tell why something feels so off, but her father can hardly keep from tearing the culprits apart. Her friends don't hear her silent cry, but her father can hardly think as it echos through his very existence. His daughter. His baby. She can't be broken, can she? At least, she'll get better, right? He knows she is not the same. He knows that she's broken. But what he doesn't know, is if she can be fixed. Cylla is bad at making friends, mostly because she can hardly take her nose out of a book long enough to talk to them. But when she stumbles into someone she can't place, she suddenly finds herself with a new friend. He's not like the rest of her friends; used to her sad eyes and her halfhearted smile. It bothers him. So much so that he almost can't sleep at night, her strange look bothering him to the depths of his soul. But can he find what has broken her pure heart, and mend what terrible nightmares have broken? Author's Note: I don't own any of the Naruto Characters! Masashi Kishimoto owns Naruto! I just loved it so much that I wrote a fanfic! Yay! I just own Cyllamari and her weird crazy friends, and this plotline! Please enjoy the results of my obsession with the Naruto world. FYI: This is NOT a story that kills off the main character after subjecting them to tons of emotional suffering!!! It will have a happy ending! I will try my best to make you empathize with the characters without doing terrible things that will make you cry. Just a heads up.

What you are about to read is a love story. Let me prepare you in advance, this story will not end the way that you expect. When we met, I was young and had never experienced real love. He was older and charismatic, I never stood a chance. He was sweet and funny, everyone loved and respected him. On the surface he was everything I could ever want and for a while, everything was like a dream. But like all dreams, it came to an end. Somewhere along the line something changed, something that to this day I still can't pinpoint. The names in this story don't matter, because this story could happen to anyone. It's messy and complicated, a whirlwind of beauty and pain that created something that had never existed, something that never will again. It's been many years, but it's time for this story, my story, to be heard.
