What would you do if you loved your best friend? You would tell him, right? That’s easier said than done. Destery Smith has loved his best friend Nate for as long as he can remember, but there’s just a few problems with that. Nate is straighter than a pole and though he isn't homophobic, he makes it clear that the idea of dating a guy repulses him. He makes it quite known that he could never date a friend, let alone his best friend. So what does Destery do? The most logical thing he can think of: pretend that he doesn't love Nate. Seems simple enough, right? Wrong. Everything was going according to plan. Destery pretended that his feelings didn't exist, and Nathan never suspected a thing. Life was good. Then Nathan had to mess it all up by getting a girlfriend. Suddenly, pretending doesn't seem as easy as it once did. Now, not only does Destery have to deal with hiding his love for Nathan, he has to deal with his newfound jealousy, something that proves to be much harder than he ever imagined it would be. In a fit of jealous rage, Destery let's his feelings slip and he kisses Nathan. To say that Nathan gets pissed is an understatement. Destery loses the thing that means the most to him in a matter of seconds, or so he thinks...

It all started with a kiss. As his face slowly got closer to mine, my heart began to race faster and faster. My mind ran at break neck speed. Is he about to kiss me?? Do I want him to kiss me?? This pompous arrogant jerk? A boy who puts the ass in sassy? As his lips were just an inch from mine, I realized that I did want this kiss. I didn't just want it, I need it. I need it like butterflies and bees need flowers, like plants need water and Sun, like it would complete me. His lips lightly brush mine and he smirks, " but I don't want you." He pulls away and walks off. I feel myself shatter. When did I fall for him? How could I have, knowing how he is?? And now I'm here feeling empty and betrayed. A tear slides down my face. A lone tear as broken and lost as I feel. I glare after him, he just started a war.
