Aris died as a starving scavenger in the "Grey World" of a nuclear winter, but he was reborn into a magic-drenched realm with the Monarch's Deck-an obsidian grimoire that treats the world as a resource to be harvested. Haunted by his past, Aris vowed never to be hungry or alone again. He claimed the Ashen Peaks and raised the Sovereignty, a sanctuary built on the First Commandment: The life of a citizen is the soul of the King. To Aris, a humble refugee is worth more than a thousand nobles. When the corrupt Holy Crusade tried to crush his "heresy," they accidentally summoned an S-Rank Behemoth that erased their own capital. In response, Aris unleashed his S-Rank guardians-Fenris, Sylphas, and Prime-in their terrifying True Forms, unmaking the monster and shattering the global status quo. Now, with his obsidian kingdom 95% complete, Aris has summoned the world's monarchs to witness his Crowning Ceremony. While kings and emperors wait in the mountain chill, Aris has already begun enforcing his new order: after a Jade Captain tried to enslave a local merchant, he was swiftly broken and imprisoned. In this new era, the age of "Heroes" is dead; the reign of the Sovereign has begun.

***First Five Chapters Only, Whole is Published*** The laws of the legion are eternal, handed down by the gods of the Imperium themselves. Out of the ashes left by the great cataclysm that was the end of a world, the Princes of Iron arose and forged themselves a dominion ever expanding and engulfing the lands around theirs. Called demons by the other races, the Divine Princes rule with thaumaturgy at their beck and call, unfeeling and perfect. Within the legions, dark engines of destruction and conquest, glimmers of light sometimes appear. For Tita Nautia Helva and the soldiers of Fourth Legion, such a suggestion strikes just in time to shake their world down to its foundations. The question in the aftermath is simple: who will you become?

The fate of the East rests on the edge of a sword as the legions and the Goths march to war... 378 AD: Fritigern's Gothic horde tightens its iron grip on Thracia and only a handful of well-walled cities to the south remain in imperial hands. The few tattered legions pinned in these cities can only watch on from the battlements as smoke rises across their lost lands and the Goths roam at will, pillaging and extorting. Every Roman - legionary or citizen - speaks of only one thing: the Emperors of East and West, Valens and Gratian, who are said to be closing swiftly on this war-stricken land, each bringing with them vast armies capable of vanquishing the horde. Awaiting the relief armies in Constantinople, Centurion Pavo and the XI Claudia prepare as best they can. The Gothic War has taken much from each of them, and none more so than Pavo. But still he and his fellow officers cling to the chance that two lost to them might yet return: their leaders, Tribunus Gallus and Primus Pilus Dexion - Pavo's brother - have not been seen or heard from since setting off on a mission to Emperor Gratian's court in the West. Some are sure they must have fallen, yet Pavo refuses to give up hope, instead whetting his blade and praying that fate will guide the pair back in time for the clash that is to come: a clash that promises to end the Gothic War - for the empire's finest legions are destined to meet Fritigern's ferocious masses... on the plains of Adrianople.

5A 390 - The Magnon Empire is all but a shadow of its former self. Split into two halves, it is well past its zenith, and is on its way to a steady decline. Centuries of warfare against their hostile neighbors, as well as within themselves, have exhausted the empire and its people. Weak-willed rulers and corrupt officials altogether grub on taxes, crushing the people under its overwhelming weight. Public order has ever since dwindled, people all around the provinces are in revolt, and their enemies grow ever stronger as the empire tosses and turns in its sleep. Furthermore, every single human being inhabiting the realm of man and beast are being plagued by a feeling of dread, or foreboding, that the end times are dawning. Some people dismiss this feeling as a prescience of the Magnon Empire's fall, yet some are led to believe that this feeling entails the destruction of the mortal plane, and the end of all forms of life itself. This story follows the exploits of eight young legionaries - serving as members of the Palatina Guard - or the Palace Guardians of the Southern Magnon Emperor. Whether these young and gifted individuals can avert the disaster that is coming, remains to be seen. The first of these disasters have already sprung forth, brewing within the remote island of Drahkindol, far to the east of Magna Terraria, the heart of the empire. This rugged and beautiful land is inhabited by a unique race referred by the humans as the Dragonkin. These Dragonkin are truly extraordinary, appearing the be a conjoint of man, elf, and beast altogether. The land is currently torn asunder by a great civil war, and the influences of that war has already seeped out of the island, and into the empires of man. The threat of this war engulfing human race is enough reason for reconciliation between the different peoples of the mainland, but whether this is the war that can shatter the Magnon Empire and the realm of man or not, the Magnon people can only pray.
